Shaykh Muhammad Umar, Chairman of the Ramadhan Foundation comments:

“It’s with great sadness that we announce the death of Sufi Javid Akhtar of the Ghamkol Sharif Mosque in Small Heath Birmingham. He was the beloved son of the late Sufi Abdullah Khan, a World War 2 veteran and founder of Central Mosque Ghamkol Sharif.

Sufi Javid was sadly fighting brain cancer and lost his life today.

I knew of him well, he was a close family friend and he will be missed by many around the world.

Birmingham would not have seen the huge Mosque at Small Heath roundabout without his contribution and support. He loyally served his father and tried in recent years to continue his work after the death of his family.

I want to send my love, prayers and condolences to Sufi Javid’s family, friends and community. A very sad day.

I look forward to attending the funeral which is due to be announced in Birmingham.
